The permanent solution for missing teeth in Dunstable

Missing teeth can make you feel self-conscious and embarrassed. You may feel pain and suffer discomfort when eating.

Dental implants are the permanent solution for missing teeth. Dental implants are fixed in your mouth and look and function like natural teeth.

Dental implants are made up of three parts –  a titanium post which sits in your jaw and acts like your new tooth root. An abutment connects the titanium post to the final piece: the crown which is your new fake tooth.

Types of dental implants in Dunstable

There are several types of dental implants:

  • A single dental implant is commonly used to replace one missing tooth
  • A bridge is used with two or more dental implants to replace several missing teeth
  • All-on-4 dental implants uses four implants in either your upper or lower jaw. This type of dental implant is used if you have very few teeth or no teeth at all.

What is the process for dental implants in Dunstable?

Consultation

At your first appointment, we will examine your teeth and gums and take x-rays. We will also discuss your oral and general health history.

This will give us a good understanding of whether you are suitable for dental implants.  We will also answer any questions that you have.

Dental implant surgery

Dental implant surgery takes place at the dental practice in Dunstable. You will be given a local anaesthetic in your mouth so that you cannot feel anything. If you have any teeth that are in poor condition, they are gently extracted at this time.

Next, the dental implant or dental implants are carefully placed into your gums along with a temporary crown. You may feel sore after the local anaesthetic has worn off and you should take paracetamol to manage the pain. You should feel better and be back at work or your usual routine in a day or two.

Healing

We leave a period of between two and six months for your gums to heal and for your jawbone to fuse with the dental implants. This is an important part of the process and cannot be rushed.

The fusion is essential to the success of your new dental implants.

Fitting of your restoration

Once we are confident that your dental implants have merged with your jawbone, you will be fitted with your new bespoke crowns and / or bridges.

The dental implant process is complete, and you can confidently show off your smile and enjoy your new teeth!

FAQ's for Dental Implants

Who is not suitable for dental implants?

Most adults who are in good health can have dental implants. We will not treat smokers as smoking has a detrimental effect on the success of dental implants. We do not treat adults who have certain illnesses or are on a particular medication. We will also need to ascertain that you have sufficient jawbone to support dental implants.

How long does dental implant surgery take?

This will depend upon several factors such as how many dental implants you are having and the complexity of your case. On average, a single dental implant usually takes about an hour to place.

What happens if I don’t have sufficient bone for dental implants?

The success of dental implants depends upon the quality and quantity of bone that you have in your jaw. If you do not have sufficient bone, we can discuss bone grafts – which means taking a small amount of bone from another part of your body to support your dental implants.

I went in for my child as she had a previous filling come out, the dr did a very quick job of fixing the problem, and my child is no longer in pain, so were very grateful. They’re always nice and friendly and do apologise if you’ve waited a little longer to be seen. And as always a sticker is great, the children love it

A very nervous patient due to so much dental work which was found to be not needed many years ago. Dunstable dental practice are very considerate to my nervousness and I get through my treatment by being asked if I’m ok all the way through. Wouldn’t want to change.
